As a cosmetic dentist in San Diego, Dr. Dave Eshom takes great pride in designing beautiful porcelain veneers that look like perfect, natural teeth. Every set of veneers he creates is custom – based on the unique esthetics of the patient’s facial shape and features, lip line, skin tone, and preferences. If you’re ready for an instant smile makeover, schedule a porcelain veneer consultation with Dr. Eshom now by calling (858) 455-9151. He can transform your smile before you RSVP to the first party of the season.

Instant Smile Makeover

Because veneers take the place of multiple cosmetic dental procedures, they’ve earned the moniker “instant smile makeover,” as well as “instant orthodontics.” You see, in a single procedure, porcelain veneers can correct these common cosmetic dental issues:

  • Crooked, overlapping, misaligned, or widely spaced teeth
  • Discolored, stained tooth enamel or intrinsic discoloration
  • Chips and natural shape imperfections
  • Small, stubby appearance of teeth
  • Uneven tooth length
  • “Bunny” teeth (large front teeth)
  • “Vampire” teeth (pointy canine teeth)

What to Expect

Your initial consultation will provide time for you and Dr. Eshom to discuss what you like and dislike about your teeth, and the doctor will also examine your mouth, gums, head, and neck. He may order x-rays and digital photography of your teeth, as well. Dr. Eshom often presents photos of similar cases, so you’ll have the opportunity to point out smile attributes that appeal to you, as well as those you find less attractive.

The first clinical visit will involve preparing your teeth for veneers by removing a tiny layer of enamel (.5 to 1mm) from the front surface of teeth that will be restored. After preparation, we’ll make an impression of your teeth, then the doctor will secure temporary veneers for you to wear until your final veneers are ready. If you aren’t pleased with the feel and fit of your temporaries, let Dr. Eshom know so that he can ensure your final veneers do provide a great fit. Expect your second and final veneers appointment to be two to three weeks later. During the interim, a dental ceramist will hand make your veneers according to Dr. Eshoms precise design. By layering semi-transparent ceramic, the ceramist will craft restorations that reflect light like natural tooth enamel. The shape, size, texture, and color of your veneers will be an exact match to Dr. Eshom’s instructions.

The last visit will be quite simple, but you’ll leave looking and feeling sensational. Dr. Eshom will replace your temporary veneers with the final veneers from the lab. He’ll analyze your occlusion – how your upper and lower teeth fit together when your mouth is shut – and make adjustments, as necessary, for a great fit. You’ll then see the final product – and if you’re like most of our patients, you’ll fall in love with your new smile!
