No Grinding Required for Uveneers

While porcelain veneers and crowns are great solutions when needed, they have huge costs both personally and financially. You lose tooth structure that you can never get back. Many patients opt for veneers without knowing this important fact. However, there are more conservative choices, such as Uveneer, that do not destroy tooth structure. Fortunately, Dr. David Eshom’s devotion to minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry provides the answer for patients to achieve their dream smile without grinding away priceless tooth structure. The Bioclear Uveneer method is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure devised by Dr. Eshom that yields beautiful and long-lasting results.

What is Uveneer?

Uveneer is the latest invention in cosmetic dentistry that aids Dr. Eshom to create consistently symmetric, natural-looking, and high-quality direct composite veneers, which act as a thin coating for your teeth. It mimics the curvature, shape, and size of natural dentition. The Uveneer templates come in various sizes so Dr. Eshom can uniquely match the best size to each patient. There is a template that corresponds with each tooth number in both the upper and lower arch. The final results are anatomically symmetric, smooth, and glossy veneers in just one office visit.

Dr. Eshom Combines Uveneer with the Bioclear Technique

Dr. Eshom’s cosmetic expertise and commitment to minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry allows his patients to receive a treatment that is not offered elsewhere: a mixture of the Bioclear technique with the Uveneer templates.

Bonding typically produces a less aesthetic result that either chips or stains within just a few years. Using the warm injection molding technique, the trademark of Bioclear, creates longer-lasting, stronger, and more natural-looking restorations than conventional bonding. This allows composite veneers to be formed in one piece (monolithic) directly onto your tooth. Dr. Eshom (one of the few in the country) thus proudly utilizes the innovative Bioclear technique to create durable, gorgeous, and high-quality results for his patients.

Dr. Eshom developed a first-of-its-kind procedure that combines this Bioclear technique with the Uveneer templates to create the best results possible. This involves pressing the templates over the warm injected composite to imitate the natural shape and form of the tooth, resulting in a one-piece veneer and beautifully finished tooth. Without these Uveneer templates and Bioclear technique, dentists typically create the composite veneer using just their hands, incorporating air bubbles, room for shaping error, and “patty caked” layers that cause quick staining and chipping.

This unique procedure produces a composite veneer that is nearly as strong as porcelain, stain-resistant, and long-lasting, giving you the benefits of porcelain veneers without the grinding, expensive fees, multiple appointments and waiting 2 weeks. This gives you something to smile about inside and gives you a gorgeous smile on the outside all in one day.

Dr. Eshom’s Uveneer Procedure

As with all procedures in our office, you begin by having a free consultation with Dr. Eshom. He asks you about your desired outcome, answers your questions, and does his analysis of your smile. Dr. Eshom shows you pictures of your teeth and discusses the possibilities of improving your smile. The goal of the consultation is to provide you with all the information you need to make the best choice for yourself.

Once you decide the Uveneer process is right for you and you are at your treatment appointment, Dr. Eshom typically uses a tucked rubber dam to protect your gums and isolate the treated teeth for the procedure. He starts with thoroughly cleaning your teeth of all biofilm or plaque so that the adhesive process (bonding) is strongly attached to your enamel and root. In this critical process, he uses an instrument called the “Bioclear Blaster” to remove all traces of plaque and leave a 100% clean tooth or teeth.

Next, Dr. Eshom places plastic matrices (small, clear tabs) around your tooth. He then injects a pre-adhesive gel, covering your entire tooth, and leaves it on for about 20 seconds. This microscopically roughens the surface of your tooth to ensure a good bond. Afterwards, he thoroughly rinses and dries your tooth.

Dr. Eshom then places the liquid adhesive on your tooth. Afterwards, he injects two forms of heated composite into the matrices. The first injected composite is flowable (liquid viscosity) and the second composite is a creamy paste viscosity. This combination of thin and thick viscosity, when injected, pushes the material intimately into small areas and often forms a “c- shape” around your tooth, as if you were hugging a tree. Next, he places the Uveneer template with the matching tooth number and size on top of the heated composite. He carefully aligns the template along your teeth and cleans excess composite from the edges of the Uveneer.

Then, Dr. Eshom light cures the composite through the template. After the composite is hardened, he  gently removes the Uveneer to reveal the smooth, glossy, and ideally shaped veneer. He finishes up by artistically blending the junctions of the three matrices into a natural looking and feeling tooth. The combination of the methods allows for minimal adjusting and polishing. Once this process is finished, Dr. Eshom hands you a mirror so you can look and be amazed at your smile transformation. You can also give him your input on what you think and he will make the changes you request. You can, if you want, schedule a follow-up appointment for Dr. Eshom to check on the veneer. You then walk out with your new stunning smile all in one day and one appointment.

Cost of Uveneers

When considering the cost of Uveneers, it is important to consider a few things. How much tooth structure will need to be removed with other procedures like porcelain veneers. What porcelain veneers cost. What bonding costs and how long bonding lasts.

As you may know, well-done porcelain veneers cost from $1500 to $2000 per tooth and requires 40-50% or your tooth to be amputated so the porcelain can ideally fit. Uveneers cost 33-50% less than porcelain veneers and often require no tooth structure to be removed. “Bonding” does not require much tooth structure removal but, as you know, does not last long, stains easily, and chips quickly. So there are two costs to be evaluated in your decision: one is the dollar cost and the other is the cost of your priceless tooth structure. Uveneer wins with both categories by costing less in dollars than porcelain veneers and costing “zero” in loss of your tooth structure. That is a win-win for our patients, and that is why Dr. Eshom developed this system for saving tooth structure and cost to his patients.

Caring for Uveneers

At home, Uveneers need no special equipment or procedures to follow to preserve their smooth appearance. Simply maintain your regular oral hygiene routine, which should involve brushing twice a day and flossing. But just like porcelain veneers, Uveneers need to be maintained carefully at your hygiene appointments. This means no ultrasonic scaling directly on the Uveneer or abrasive polishing paste on the surfaces of your Uveneers. Let your hygienist know you have these composite restorations and to use hand scaling around them and composite polishing paste on their smooth surfaces. Having regular check-ups with your dentist is also crucial. Uveneers are fantastic choices when you’re looking to better your smile with no tooth structure ground down and with little maintenance.
